Faceted stones
A faceted stone is one that has been cut to have small, flat
surfaces that make transparent stones sparkle. Cut surface reflects the light
and brightens the stone up. It channels light into the stone where light
refracts and re-emerges.
Freshwater pearls
Natural pearls are very rare, and most pearls on today's market are cultured. To create a cultured pearl, a small bead is implanted into
the oyster. Over time the oyster gradually coats the bead in several layers of proteins, and natural minerals. These layers are called nacre. The nacre is what gives pearls their beautiful shine and shade. Freshwater pearls have solid nacre. They are also quite durable, resisting chipping, wear, and degeneration. Globe leaders in freshwater pearls production are China, Japan and the USA.

Cabochon
Cabochon is the simplest and one of the oldest styles of cut. The stone has a smooth domed polished surface on one side, and flat rough unpolished back. It usually has a round or oval outline. It is also used for additional optical effect for natural minerals with gradually changing shades.
Carat (Gold)
A measure of gold purity. It is expressed as a ratio of gold to other metals used to make jewellery. It is measured in 24 parts, called carats.
24 carat gold is pure gold. 18 carat gold is 18 parts of gold and 6 parts of other metals.
Carat (Gemstones)
A unit of mass equal to 200mg. Carats are used for measuring gemstones and pearls.
